Find a Laripur grade

Answer what you know. One input is enough to start, and every input you add narrows the list. The finder scores each grade on the chemistry its data sheet states, its hardness, the applications COIM lists for it and whether it is supplied for extrusion or molding. It never sees your part, so treat the result as the shortlist to sample.

Results update as you change an input.

Reading Shore hardness on a TPU

Shore hardness is measured by pressing an indenter into the material under a spring load (ASTM D2240). Shore A uses a blunt indenter and reads flexible materials. Shore D uses a sharper indenter and takes over once the material stops flexing easily. The scales overlap: Shore A 95 lands near Shore D 46, which is where the Laripur range changes scale.

Hardness sets stiffness, sealing force and how a part wears. It does not set how the part survives oil, hot water or cold. That is the soft-segment chemistry, and two grades with the same durometer reading can fail in opposite environments. Polyester vs polyether TPU covers the chemistry choice, and TPU durometers covers what each band of hardness feels like in a part.

TPU hardness chart: every Laripur grade

Sorted softest to hardest. Chemistry is the soft segment stated on each grade's COIM data sheet. VICAT is the softening point (ASTM D1525) and abrasion loss is DIN 53516, both from the same sheets. The last column is the application list COIM publishes for the grade. Each grade name opens its catalog page with the full property table, the drying and temperature profile and the packaging.

Extrusion versions carry an end code on the order (EG, EF, HFM), so tell us the process as well as the grade. Grades not in this table, including flame-retardant and UV-stabilized versions, are supplied on request.

How the finder chooses

Chemistry first. Hot water, steam, immersion or cold service score the polyether grades highest and the caprolactone ester grades next. Oil, fuel, abrasion or heat score the polyester grades highest, with caprolactone ester close behind. A part that sees both water and oil puts the caprolactone ester grades on top, which is why both of them are seal grades.

Then hardness. A grade inside your target band scores full marks, a grade within a few points scores partially, and the rest drop out. Then the application, matched against the list COIM publishes for each grade, and finally the process, because some grades are supplied for extrusion only and some for molding only.

The finder cannot see your drawing, your fluid or your cycle time. It gives you the three grades worth sampling. The sample tells you the rest, and it ships the same business day from North American stock.

Frequently asked questions

What Shore hardness does TPU come in?

Thermoplastic polyurethane is sold from about Shore A 60, which is as soft as a rubber band, up to Shore D 80, which is close to a rigid plastic. The Laripur range on this page runs from Shore A 66 on Laripur 6518 to Shore D 77 on Laripur 7711, so one supplier covers the span from a flexible sole to a load-bearing wheel.

How do Shore A and Shore D compare?

The two scales overlap. Shore A is measured with a blunter indenter and is used for flexible materials; Shore D uses a sharper point and is used once a material stops flexing easily. A reading of Shore A 95 is roughly Shore D 46, which is why the Laripur range switches scales there: the softest D grade, Laripur 4525, is 46 D. A part that needs to flex and seal is specified in Shore A. A part that needs to hold shape under load is specified in Shore D.

Which TPU hardness is right for a hydraulic seal?

Most TPU rod and piston seals sit between Shore A 90 and Shore A 95, hard enough to resist extrusion into the gland gap and soft enough to follow the sealing surface. Laripur E 107-93A, 2203-93A and 2103-90AE are the seal grades in this table. Fluid and temperature then decide the chemistry: hydraulic oil and heat point to an ester grade, water-based fluids and cold to a polyether grade.

Can two grades at the same hardness behave differently?

Yes, and this is the mistake the finder is built to catch. Hardness sets stiffness. The soft-segment chemistry sets whether the part survives its environment. A polyester and a polyether grade at Shore A 90 read the same on a durometer and behave differently in hot water, in oil and in the cold. Choose the chemistry first, then the hardness.

Can you cross-reference a grade from another TPU supplier?

Yes. Send the grade you run now, the process and the part, and we match a Laripur grade by hardness, chemistry type and processing profile, then ship material to test. We do not publish a grade-to-grade table because hardness and chemistry alone do not decide whether a substitution survives in a real part.

How fast does a Laripur sample ship?

Samples typically ship the same business day from North American stock with the data sheet attached. Tell us the grade, or the part if you want us to pick the grade, and where it ships.
