Laripur 7711 is a high modulus engineering thermoplastic polyurethane at Shore 77 D, the hardest grade in this catalog. COIM lists it for injection and extrusion of technical items.

COIM's data sheet does not state a soft segment chemistry for this grade, and we will not assign one it does not claim. If your qualification file needs the chemistry stated, ask and we will get it from COIM in writing.

The flexural modulus is 320000 psi and tear strength is 230 N/mm, with a 50 percent tensile modulus of 9000 psi. Elongation at break is 130 percent, so this material is used as a rigid structural plastic rather than as an elastomer. Abrasion loss is 150 cubic mm by DIN 53516, well above the elastomeric grades, which is the trade for the stiffness.

COIM publishes a notched impact figure of 5.3 kJ per square m at minus 4 degrees F and a VICAT softening point of 195 degrees F.

Handling and dispersion

Dry before processing at 175 to 195 degrees F for 3 hours, preferably in a dehumidifying drier fed by air with a dew point below minus 22 degrees F. Skipping the drying step is the most common cause of splay and bubbles in a TPU part.

COIM's suggested moulding profile runs zone 1 at 430 degrees F, zone 2 at 440, zone 3 at 445 and the nozzle at 400. Machine, screw and downstream equipment all move these, so treat them as a starting point. The nozzle runs well below the barrel on this grade, which is unusual and is what COIM's sheet specifies.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: 25 kg bags, or 500 kg and 1000 kg octabins.

Storage: Six months from the date of delivery, in the original sealed packaging, in a dry well ventilated place out of direct sun.

Frequently asked questions

Is Laripur 7711 polyester or polyether?

COIM's data sheet does not say. It describes the grade as a high modulus engineering thermoplastic polyurethane and stops there, so we do not assign it a chemistry. If your qualification file needs one, ask us and we will get the answer from COIM in writing rather than infer it.

Is this still a TPU?

Yes, but it behaves as a rigid engineering plastic. Elongation at break is 130 percent against 600 percent or more for the Shore A grades, and the flexural modulus is 320000 psi. It is specified where a part needs stiffness and tear resistance rather than rebound.

Why is the abrasion loss so high?

150 cubic mm by DIN 53516, against 30 to 50 for the elastomeric grades. Hard TPU does not have the rubbery recovery that gives a soft TPU its abrasion performance. If wear is the duty, a Shore A grade will outlast this one.

What is the next grade down?

Laripur 71D60 at Shore 70 D, a PTMG polyether with a much lower abrasion loss of 50 cubic mm and a published cold impact figure, or Laripur 72D25 at Shore 67 D in polyester.
