Laripur 8860EG

PTMG polyether TPU at Shore 86 A with very good resistance to hydrolysis and microbial attack. Hose, cable, profile and film extrusion, with a UV stabilized 8860EUV version.

Home Products COIM Laripur 8860EG

Laripur 8860EG is a PTMG polyether based TPU at Shore 86 A. COIM states that it has very good resistance to hydrolysis and microbial attack.

COIM lists the standard version for the injection of technical items and the EG version for the extrusion of hose, cable, profile and film. A UV stabilized version of the extrusion grade is available as 8860EUV, which is the one to specify for anything that lives outdoors.

Tensile strength is 6380 psi at 550 percent elongation, with tear strength of 88 N/mm and a VICAT softening point of 171 degrees F. Specific gravity is 1.12, among the lowest in the range, so a given weight of pellets yields more part.

Order the EG version when the material is going into a die. COIM identifies its extrusion versions with an end code after the grade number, and that code has to be on the purchase order.

Applications

Cable jacketing

Extrusion in the EG version.

Hose and tubing

COIM's first listed extrusion use.

Profile and film

Extrusion in the EG version.

Outdoor parts

The 8860EUV version is UV stabilized.

Technical injection moulded parts

The standard version.

Wet service parts

COIM states very good resistance to hydrolysis and microbial attack.

Handling and dispersion

Dry before processing at 175 to 195 degrees F for 3 hours, preferably in a dehumidifying drier fed by air with a dew point below minus 22 degrees F. Skipping the drying step is the most common cause of splay and bubbles in a TPU part.

COIM's suggested moulding profile runs zone 1 at 365 degrees F, zone 2 at 375, zone 3 at 385 and the nozzle at 375. The suggested extrusion profile runs zone 1 at 375, zone 2 at 385, zone 3 at 395, zone 4 at 390, adapter 385 and die 375. Machine, screw and downstream equipment all move these, so treat them as a starting point.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: 25 kg bags, or 500 kg and 1000 kg octabins.

Storage: Six months from the date of delivery, in the original sealed packaging, in a dry well ventilated place out of direct sun.

COIM does not consider the product dangerous. Read the safety data sheet before handling.

Frequently asked questions

What does the EUV code mean?

UV stabilized. 8860EUV is the UV stabilized version of the 8860EG extrusion grade. Specify it for anything that sees sunlight in service. The code has to be on the purchase order.

Is Laripur 8860 polyester or polyether?

PTMG polyether. COIM states very good resistance to hydrolysis and microbial attack, which is the reason to choose this chemistry over a polyester grade at the same hardness.

Will an unstabilized TPU yellow outdoors?

Any aromatic TPU will discolour under UV over time. That is why the EUV version exists. If colour hold matters as much as mechanical retention, say so and we will confirm what COIM can support for the exposure you expect.

What is the polyester equivalent at this hardness?

Laripur 8025 at Shore 84 A or 8225 at Shore 83 A. Both are stronger in tensile terms, 7900 and 8500 psi against 6380 psi here, and neither carries the hydrolysis resistance.

Can I get the TDS and SDS for Laripur 8860EG?

Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
