Laripur 6518

A plasticized, fully transparent polyester TPU at Shore 66 A with 870 percent elongation. High flexibility soles, with excellent adhesion to two component PU systems.

Home Products COIM Laripur 6518

Laripur 6518 is a polyester based TPU that COIM supplies plasticized and fully transparent, at Shore 66 A. It is the softest grade in this catalog and COIM recommends it for high flexibility soles, slip properties and abrasion resistance.

COIM states that it has excellent adhesion to most two component polyurethane systems, which is the property that puts it in a sole bonded to a cast PU midsole rather than in a general purpose technical part.

Elongation at break is 870 percent, the highest figure in this catalog, against a tensile strength of 4500 psi. COIM describes it as combining the advantages of a rubbery material with those of a TPU, and it runs fast processing cycles.

It is plasticized, so it is not the grade for an application where plasticizer migration or extraction would be a problem. Say so up front and we will point you at an unplasticized grade instead.

Applications

High flexibility soles

COIM's stated recommendation.

Transparent parts

The grade is supplied fully transparent.

Parts bonded to cast polyurethane

COIM states excellent adhesion to most two component PU systems.

Slip and abrasion surfaces

Named on the data sheet.

Handling and dispersion

Dry before processing at 175 to 195 degrees F for 3 hours, preferably in a dehumidifying drier fed by air with a dew point below minus 22 degrees F. Skipping the drying step is the most common cause of splay and bubbles in a TPU part.

COIM's suggested moulding profile runs zone 1 at 330 degrees F, zone 2 at 340, zone 3 at 350 and the nozzle at 340. Machine, screw and downstream equipment all move these, so treat them as a starting point. Those are the lowest barrel temperatures in this catalog, which is part of why the cycle is fast.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: 25 kg bags, or 500 kg and 1000 kg octabins.

Storage: Six months from the date of delivery, in the original sealed packaging, in a dry well ventilated place out of direct sun.

COIM does not consider the product dangerous. Read the safety data sheet before handling.

Frequently asked questions

Is Laripur 6518 clear?

Yes. COIM supplies it fully transparent. It is the only transparent grade in this catalog.

Will it bond to cast polyurethane?

COIM states that it has excellent adhesion to most two component polyurethane systems. Adhesion still depends on the specific system and the surface, so run a trial. Tell us the PU system and we will send material for it.

It is plasticized. Does that matter?

It can. A plasticized TPU is not the right choice where migration or extraction would contaminate a mating part, a coating or a fluid. For those cases ask for an unplasticized grade and we will select one at a similar hardness.

How soft is Shore 66 A?

About as soft as a pencil eraser, and the softest grade on this site. Elongation at break is 870 percent, so it stretches to nearly ten times its length before it parts.

Can I get the TDS and SDS for Laripur 6518?

Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
