Laripur 5225

Polyester TPU at Shore 51 D. Injection moulded technical items and sport soles in the standard version, hose, profile, belt and film in the 5225EG extrusion version.

Home Products COIM Laripur 5225

Laripur 5225 is a polyester based TPU at Shore 51 D. COIM lists the standard version for the production of technical items, sport soles and cattle tags, and the 5225EG version for the extrusion of hoses, profiles, transmission belts and films.

It sits in the harder half of the Laripur polyester grades. Tensile strength is 9000 psi, tear strength 145 N/mm, and flexural modulus 17000 N per square mm, with elongation at break at 460 percent. Abrasion loss is 35 cubic mm by DIN 53516.

The VICAT softening point is 261 degrees F, which is what separates it from the softer polyester grades in service temperature rather than in stiffness alone.

Order the EG version when the material is going into a die. COIM identifies its extrusion versions with an end code after the grade number, and that code has to be on the purchase order.

Applications

Hose and tubing

Extrusion of hoses and profiles in the 5225EG version.

Transmission belts

Listed by COIM for the extrusion version.

Film and sheet

Extruded film in the EG version.

Technical injection moulded parts

The standard version is made for it.

Sport soles

One of COIM's stated uses for the standard version.

Cattle tags

Named on the data sheet.

Handling and dispersion

Dry before processing at 175 to 195 degrees F for 3 hours, preferably in a dehumidifying drier fed by air with a dew point below minus 22 degrees F. Skipping the drying step is the most common cause of splay and bubbles in a TPU part.

COIM's suggested moulding profile runs zone 1 at 375 degrees F, zone 2 at 385, zone 3 at 400 and the nozzle at 385. The suggested extrusion profile runs zone 1 at 400, zone 2 at 410, zone 3 at 420, zone 4 at 410, adapter 400 and die 395. Machine, screw and downstream equipment all move these, so treat them as a starting point.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: 25 kg bags, or 500 kg and 1000 kg octabins.

Storage: Six months from the date of delivery, in the original sealed packaging, in a dry well ventilated place out of direct sun.

COIM does not consider the product dangerous. Read the safety data sheet before handling.

Frequently asked questions

Is Laripur 5225 polyester or polyether?

Polyester. COIM's data sheet describes it as a quality polyester based TPU. That matters for service environment: polyester TPU carries the abrasion and oil resistance, and it is the chemistry to move away from when the part sits in hot water or high humidity for long periods.

What is the difference between 5225 and 5225EG?

The process they are made for. The standard 5225 is the injection moulding version and 5225EG is the extrusion version, for hose, profile, transmission belt and film. Same chemistry and the same published properties. The EG code has to be on the order when you need the extrusion version.

How hard is it?

Shore 51 D. That is a hard grade, above the Shore A scale entirely, with a flexural modulus of 17000 N per square mm. If the part needs to flex, look at a softer grade in the same chemistry.

Do I have to dry it before moulding?

Yes. Three hours at 175 to 195 degrees F in a dehumidifying drier, with the air dew point below minus 22 degrees F. TPU picks up moisture from the air and wet material hydrolyses in the barrel, which shows up as splay, bubbles and a loss of tensile strength that no process adjustment recovers.

What is the service temperature?

COIM publishes a VICAT softening point of 261 degrees F. That is a softening figure under a standard load, not a continuous service rating. Tell us the temperature, the load and the duration and we will say whether this grade is the right one.

Can I get the TDS and SDS for Laripur 5225?

Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
