Deuteron WD PE

Polyethylene wax pre-dispersed in water at 50 percent active, made without dispersing additives, emulsifiers or defoamers. A pourable liquid that meters through an automatic dosing unit.

Home Products Deuteron Deuteron WD PE

Deuteron WD PE is a dispersion of micronized polyethylene wax in water at 50 percent active. It delivers what Deuteron Wax PE delivers as a powder: abrasion and scratch resistance, useful matting, a lower coefficient of friction, and a pleasant surface feel.

What makes it worth specifying over the powder is what is not in it. The dispersion is made without dispersing additives, emulsifiers or defoamers, so nothing rides into the coating alongside the wax to interfere with the film. Wax dispersions that carry a surfactant package are a common source of water sensitivity and foam.

It is a pourable liquid suitable for automatic dosing units, which takes a powder handling step and its dust out of the plant.

Applications

Wood and joinery coatings

Scratch resistance and surface feel in waterborne wood systems.

Flexographic inks

Rub resistance on the finished print.

Overprint varnishes

Slip and abrasion resistance over the print.

Metal coatings

Surface protection in waterborne metal finishes.

It is specified where the formulation needs abrasion and scratch resistance, rub resistance in printing inks, matting, a lower coefficient of friction, and no surfactant package entering the coating.

Handling and dispersion

WD PE incorporates with a common high-speed stirrer. Add it while stirring rather than pouring it in at once: concentration differences at the point of addition are what cause agglomeration in a wax dispersion.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: Plastic barrel, 30 kg net.

Storage: Storage temperature should not exceed 35 °C.

Under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Deuteron WD PE is not classified as a dangerous product and does not require hazard labelling. The safety data sheet and the regulatory information sheet carry the detail your review will want.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an additive-free dispersion matter?

Because whatever disperses the wax stays in your coating. Dispersing additives, emulsifiers and defoamers brought in with a wax dispersion can raise water sensitivity, interfere with adhesion or cause foam. WD PE is made without them, so the only thing you are adding is polyethylene wax and water.

Should I use WD PE or the Wax PE powder?

WD PE for waterborne systems, in most cases. It is the same wax without the dispersing step, it meters through an automatic dosing unit, and it removes a powder handling and dust step. Wax PE is the choice for solventborne systems and where you want to build your own pre-mix.

How do I avoid agglomeration when adding it?

Add it while stirring. Agglomeration in a wax dispersion comes from concentration differences at the point of addition, so pouring it into a moving batch rather than a static one is the whole technique.

How does it differ from WD OPE?

WD PE is standard polyethylene wax at a 101 °C melting point and 50 percent active. WD OPE is oxidized polyethylene, harder and melting at 128 °C, which gives it stronger anti-blocking and abrasion resistance and less effect on slip. Choose WD OPE when blocking is the problem.

Can I get the TDS and SDS for Deuteron WD PE?

Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and Regulatory Information Sheet on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
