PTFE-modified polyethylene wax for surface protection and friction reduction. The PTFE and PE combination works better together than either does alone, and it disperses more easily than PTFE on its own.
Deuteron Wax TF is a micronized polyethylene wax modified with PTFE, made for surface protection and friction reduction. Combining the two gives a synergistic effect in both performance and dispersibility: it goes into a formulation more readily than PTFE on its own does.
It is a universal grade, usable in solventborne, waterborne and 100 percent systems including UV curable coatings.
Metal marking resistance is the property that distinguishes it. Where a coated surface is going to meet metal, on a can line or a piece of hardware, this is the grade that stops the grey mark.
It contains PTFE. Where a fluorine-free additive is the requirement, Deuteron Wax PE or the PMU matting agents are the route to take instead.

It is specified where the formulation needs a lower coefficient of friction, mar and abrasion resistance, anti-blocking performance, and metal marking resistance.
Wax TF disperses easily and can be incorporated with a common high-speed stirrer. In low viscosity systems a high shear dispersing unit may be needed to disperse it properly.
A pre-mix can be prepared in a solvent phase at around 30 to 45 percent depending on the solvents used. A water pre-mix needs about 1 percent of an emulsifier, and ethoxylated grades with an HLB value of 15 are suitable.
For waterborne coatings Deuteron also makes WD TF, the same chemistry supplied already dispersed. Ask us if that fits your process better.

Under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Deuteron Wax TF is not classified as a dangerous product and does not require hazard labelling. It contains PTFE. The safety data sheet and the regulatory information sheet carry the detail your review will want.
Yes. It is a polyethylene wax modified with PTFE, and the PTFE is what delivers the friction reduction and the metal marking resistance. If your formulation has to be fluorine-free, use Deuteron Wax PE or one of the polymethylurea matting agents instead.
Dispersibility and cost. PTFE on its own is difficult to wet out and disperse. Carried on a polyethylene wax it goes in with a high-speed stirrer, and Deuteron describes the performance of the combination as synergistic rather than simply additive.
The grey streak a metal object leaves when it slides across a coated surface. It is a common complaint on can ends, appliance panels and coated hardware. A PTFE-modified wax at the surface stops the metal keying into the film.
0.5 to 2.0 percent on the complete formulation, a narrower range than the plain PE wax, which runs to 3.0 percent. The level depends on the binder and the application. Tell us the system and we will suggest a starting point.
