Granulated xanthan gum thickener for waterborne coatings, inks and pigment concentrates. Added dust free, dissolves without lumps, and needs no high shear disperser.
Deuteron VT 920 is a natural biopolymer thickener based on polysaccharides, supplied as granules. It dissolves in cold and hot water and gives pseudoplastic solutions that hold across a wide temperature and pH range.
It builds a strong structure viscosity. Viscosity drops under shear and comes back as soon as the shear stops, which keeps pigments and fillers in suspension during storage and stops the coating sagging after application.
The granulated supply form is what separates it from a powdered xanthan. It can be added dust free and without lumps, and it does not need high shear forces to incorporate properly.
| Property | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Appearance | White granules |
| Bulk density | approx. 500 g/l |
| Viscosity, 1 percent in water | approx. 2200 mPa.s |
| Supply form | Granulated |
| Solvent tolerance | Up to 40 percent alcohols or glycol ethers |
Dosage: 0.1 to 1.0 percent for thickening and gel formation, 0.1 to 0.3 percent to stabilise solids against sedimentation, and 0.1 to 0.5 percent for anti-sagging.
Typical values from the manufacturer's technical data sheet. They describe the product, they are not a specification. We will send the current TDS and the batch documentation your qualification needs.
Tell us the binder system, the property you are targeting, and the volume you expect. We will confirm the grade, send the documentation, and ship a sample from North American stock.
General viscosity adjustment and anti-sagging in water-based systems.
Keeps pigments and waxes from floating or settling on the shelf.
Structure viscosity that recovers after the shear of application.
Viscosity control without high shear equipment.
Stable gels and suspended solids.
It is specified where the formulation needs general viscosity adjustment, less floating and settling of waxes and pigments, better stability and anti-sagging, and stable gels.
The granulated form lets VT 920 be added dust free and without lumps. Add it while stirring and continue at moderate speed until it is fully dissolved. Complete dispersion usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, and higher shear accelerates it.
Thickener solutions based on polysaccharides need protection against fungal and bacterial growth. Any broad-range biocide used in the paint industry is suitable.
Package sizes: Cardboard box with plastic inliner, 15 kg net.
Storage: 24 months at room temperature in dry conditions. Storage temperature should not exceed 35 °C and relative humidity should not exceed 70 percent.
Under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Deuteron VT 920 is not classified as a dangerous product and does not require hazard labelling. It also meets the Food Chemical Codex, the EU criteria for E415, 21 CFR 172.695 in the United States, the JECFA guidelines, the European Pharmacopoeia, the US Pharmacopeia, and Japan's specifications and standards for food additives.
When the finished film or gel has to stay clear. VT 930 is the transparent version of this grade. The two are otherwise the same thickener at 2200 mPa.s in a 1 percent solution and dose identically.
No. That is the reason for the granulated form. Add it while stirring at moderate speed and it dissolves in 10 to 15 minutes without lumping. The powdered grade, Deuteron XG, does need high shear.
0.1 to 0.5 percent for anti-sagging. For general thickening or gel formation the range is 0.1 to 1.0 percent, and 0.1 to 0.3 percent is enough to hold solids against sedimentation. Tell us the system and we will suggest a starting point.
It is stable in anionic and non-ionic systems. In cationic systems incompatibilities can occur, so trial it before committing to a formulation.
Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and Regulatory Information Sheet on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
