Deuteron MM 100

Sub-micron PMU matting dispersion in DPGDA for thin layer UV curable coatings and inks. 17 percent active, supplied without a wetting agent so the formulator picks their own.

Home Products Deuteron Deuteron MM 100

Deuteron MM 100 is a preparation of very fine polymethylurea particles dispersed in DPGDA, a reactive diluent. It is a liquid dispersion, not a powder, and it was developed specifically for thin layer UV curable coatings and inks.

The particles are sub-micron: 0.6 microns at dv50, 0.8 at dv90, and 1.3 at dv99, with only about 1.2 percent of the material above 1 micron. That fineness is what lets it matt a thin UV film without the particles reading as texture or haze.

MM 100 is the version supplied without a wetting agent, which lets the formulator choose their own rather than work around one already in the drum. It carries 17 percent active content at 3200 mPas, where MM 110 is 25 percent active at 220 mPas with a wetting agent included.

It mimics wax effects without bringing the drawbacks waxes carry into a formulation.

Dosage: The level depends on the application and the formulation, including binder type, other additives, solvent content, layer thickness and film shrinkage. Determine it with a ladder study.

Typical values from the manufacturer's technical data sheet. They describe the product, they are not a specification. We will send the current TDS and the batch documentation your qualification needs.

Applications

UV curable coatings

Suitable wherever DPGDA is acceptable in the formulation.

Overprint varnishes

The preferred application for this dispersion.

Inkjet inks

Sub-micron particles that will pass a jetting head.

Printing inks

Matting in thin printed films.

It is specified where the formulation needs gloss reduction in thin uv films, very low influence on viscosity, high mechanical and chemical resistance, scratch resistance and resistance to polishing, improved blocking resistance, and wax-like surface effects without using a wax.

Handling and dispersion

PMU chemistry is highly compatible across a wide range of systems, though MM 100 carries no wetting agent of its own, so add one to suit the system. It incorporates with a high-speed stirrer and is shear stable in high shear processes but should not be ground in a bead mill.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: Steel drum, 25 kg net or 220 kg net.

Storage: 24 months at room temperature in dry conditions. Storage temperature should not exceed 35 °C.

Under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Deuteron MM 100 is classified as a dangerous product and must be labelled. This is the DPGDA carrier rather than the PMU, and it sets MM 100 and MM 110 apart from the powdered Deuteron matting agents, which are not classified. Read the safety data sheet before handling.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Deuteron MM 100 and MM 110?

Active content, viscosity and wetting agent. MM 100 is 17 percent active at 3200 mPas and carries no wetting agent, so you choose your own. MM 110 is 25 percent active at 220 mPas with a wetting agent included, which is the easier drop-in. The particle size is identical at 0.6 microns dv50.

Is it hazardous?

Yes. Under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 both MM 100 and MM 110 are classified as dangerous products and require labelling, because of the DPGDA reactive diluent they are dispersed in. The powdered Deuteron matting agents are not classified. Read the safety data sheet before handling.

Can I use it if DPGDA is not acceptable in my formulation?

No. DPGDA is the carrier and it becomes part of the cured film, so the whole product is only suitable where that monomer is acceptable. If it is not, a powdered grade such as Deuteron MK-F6 is the route to matting a UV system.

Will it pass through an inkjet head?

The particle size is built for it: 0.6 microns at dv50, 1.3 at dv99, and only about 1.2 percent of the material above 1 micron. Inkjet inks are a stated application. Trial it against your specific head and fluid.

Can I get the TDS and SDS for Deuteron MM 100?

Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and Regulatory Information Sheet on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
