FILCO D2496 is an anionic polyester-polyurethane waterborne dispersion used as a film former in sizings for continuous and chopped glass, basalt, mineral and carbon fiber, virgin or recycled. COIM publishes it at 33.5 percent solids and pH 8.0.
Its dried film sits in the middle of the family. At 8 MPa 100 percent modulus, 19 MPa tensile strength and 300 percent elongation at break on ASTM D1708, COIM lists it as moderate stiffness, with very good abrasion resistance and high strand and tow integrity that is still easy to disperse and wet during application.
That middle position is the practical starting point on a chopping line. It is stiff enough to hold a consolidated bundle against fuzz and splaying, and extensible enough that the cut does not run brittle and dusty. FILCO 547 sits below it at 2 MPa and D2594 and D2476 above it at 12 and 20 MPa.
The anionic dispersion is published for enhanced electrostatic dissipation, high shear stability and compatibility with anionic or non-ionic bath additives. The matrix side is nylon, polyurethane and polycarbonate.

Selection runs matrix first, then stiffness. FILCO D2496 is the moderate reference point. Move to D2594 or D2476 for a stiffer, more compact bundle, or to FILCO 547 for a soft, extensible one.
The film is thermoplastic and non-reactive. Where the process should crosslink the film, look at the reactive polyurethane family instead.

Storage: Store in closed containers away from direct sun at 41 to 86 degrees F. Maximum suggested storage is 12 months from production in the original package, after which the product must be rechecked. Freezing destroys the dispersion permanently.
Not classified as dangerous under Regulation EC 1272/2008 (CLP) and not regulated for transport. The safety data sheet notes the material can accumulate static charge during handling. Read the SDS before handling. We supply the current SDS with every shipment in the manufacturer's current revision.
