Custom-matched pigment dispersions for dip-molded and slush-molded parts, rotocast goods, coated fabric, and flexible PVC compound. We are an authorized REPI formulator and we produce the color at our own plant in Hermon, Maine.
P.A.T. Products is an authorized REPI formulator. We produce finished, custom-matched liquid color at our own plant in Hermon, Maine. The matching, the mixing, the quality control and the certificate all happen in the same building, and no sample goes out to an outside lab.
Plastisol and cast urethane are seven in ten of what we match. Plastisol is the larger of the two, and it has been the base of this business for years: dip-molded parts, slush and rotocast goods, coated fabric, seals and gaskets, soft-touch grips.
That matters when you send us a shade, because the bench has seen your system before. A match into flexible PVC is routine work here rather than an experiment.
The dispersions we supply for plastisol are pigment held in a plasticizer carrier. Plastisol is PVC resin suspended in plasticizer, so the carrier is the same class of material the compound is already built on. It integrates into the formulation instead of sitting in it as a foreign phase.
That is a real difference from every other system we serve. In cast polyurethane a plasticizer carrier is a non-reactive addition that occupies volume between chains. In epoxy it is a diluent that takes no part in the cure. In plastisol it is simply more of what is already there, and it is accounted for the way any plasticizer in the formulation is accounted for.
The practical consequence: tell us the plasticizer your compound runs on. Matching the carrier to it keeps the addition inside your existing formulation rather than beside it. The reasoning behind every carrier we offer is in choosing the carrier for a polyurethane pigment dispersion.
Our color runs on a phthalate-free terephthalate plasticizer. Terephthalate is the para isomer: the two carboxyl groups sit opposite each other on the ring rather than adjacent. That is the structural difference the restricted-substance lists are drawn around, and it is why a terephthalate ester is not a phthalate.
Flexible PVC is where phthalate questions land hardest, so on this line the answer is in the product as supplied.
Antistatic vinyl flooring sits next door to this line: the compound is the same family, and the additive is a separate product rather than something carried in the color. See antistatic additives if that is the requirement.
A dispersion going into plastisol has to meter at your conditions and it has to leave the plastisol's rheology where you set it. Low-viscosity and pourable trims are available for shops running metering pumps rather than hand addition.
Tell us the pump, the addition rate, and where in the process the color enters. Viscosity is part of the specification on this line, not an afterthought.
Send your plastisol and we will match into it rather than into a substitute. More than half the standards that reach us are a physical object, a molded part or a wet sample, rather than a number, and we work from whatever you have: a PANTONE code, a RAL number, a Federal Standard 595 chip, a part, or a photograph.
We also reverse-match a color you already buy from another supplier, so a shade can move without being re-specified. Custom matching is free. The method and the request form are on the color match service page, and the plastisol-specific detail is in coloring plastisol for dip molding, rotocast, and coated fabric.
Custom matching is free and samples ship at 0.5 kg, which is enough to run a trial before anything is committed. There is no minimum order: one pail is a normal order.
Colors ship in 5 kg, 12.5 kg and 20 kg pails, and in drums and totes. Lead time is about a week on a match and about a week on a commercial order. We ship throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Our liquid color is made in the United States and is Berry Amendment, REACH, RoHS, and California Proposition 65 compliant. Technical and Safety Data Sheets ship with every color, and a certificate goes out with every batch carrying the color measurement and the viscosity conditions it was measured under.
Color tolerance is specified at CIELAB delta E of 1.0 or better against the approved standard, measured under D65 illuminant and a 10 degree observer, and we have never issued a certificate that missed it. Tell us what your qualification process requires and we will pull the documents.
No. Screen-printing plastisol is a finished ink, sold ready to print and formulated to sit on a fabric surface. This is a pigment dispersion: a concentrate you let down into your own plastisol compound so the color runs through the part. The two share a name and a resin family and nothing else about how they are bought or used.
A phthalate-free terephthalate plasticizer. Plastisol is PVC resin suspended in plasticizer, so a plasticizer-carried dispersion integrates into the compound rather than sitting in it as a foreign phase. Terephthalate is the para isomer, which is what puts it outside the phthalate class. Tell us the plasticizer your compound runs on and we will match the carrier to it.
About 2 percent is the published figure for flexible PVC plastisol, roughly a 50 to 1 let-down, measured on the compound. Where you land depends on the pigment and on how much hide the shade needs, so confirm it on a drawdown in your own compound rather than reading it off a chart.
Pigment selection is the question, not the dispersion. Some organic pigments have real temperature limits: diarylide yellows release 3,3-dichlorobenzidine above 200 degrees C, which is close enough to a fusion schedule to matter. Tell us your fusion temperature and dwell and we will select pigments that hold at it.
Yes, and it is routine work. Send your compound and we will match into it rather than into a substitute. Plastisol is the system we match most often, so the bench has seen compounds like yours before.
