TRAZIDIN VN

Polyfunctional aziridine crosslinker for carboxyl-bearing acrylic emulsions and polyurethane dispersions. Trifunctional, low volatile, miscible in water and common solvents.

Home Products Tramaco TRAZIDIN VN

TRAZIDIN VN is a polyfunctional aziridine used as a crosslinking agent, adhesion promoter and modifier in adhesives, coatings and printing applications. The molecule carries three aziridine groups on a high molecular weight, low volatile backbone.

Each aziridine group reacts with an active hydrogen of the kind found in the carboxyl groups of acrylic emulsions and polyurethane dispersions. The reaction protonates and opens the aziridine ring, which then bonds to the carboxyl oxygen and builds a crosslink network through the dried film.

The result in the finished system is strength with flexibility, better solvent, alcohol and water resistance, higher hardness, and upgraded adhesion to difficult substrates. It is the property step a one-component waterborne adhesive or coating cannot reach on its own.

TRAZIDIN VN is miscible in water and many common organic solvents, so it serves aqueous and solvent systems alike. It is a made-to-order product from the German plant.

Typical properties

Dosage: Set by the system and confirmed by trial. The crosslinker reacts with the carboxyl content of the binder, so the addition follows the binder's acid level rather than a fixed figure.

Typical values from the manufacturer's technical data sheet. They describe the product, they are not a specification. We will send the current TDS and the batch documentation your qualification needs.

Applications

Waterborne adhesives

Strength, heat resistance and water resistance on laminating and contact adhesives built on acrylic or PUD binders.

Coatings on difficult substrates

The adhesion upgrade when a waterborne coating has to hold on a low-energy or flexible surface.

Printing applications

Crosslinks carboxyl-bearing ink and primer systems for solvent and water resistance.

Two-component primer systems

The crosslink step behind the crosslinkable TRAPYLEN film and molded-part primers.

It is specified where the formulation needs trifunctional crosslinking from a single low-volatile liquid, works in water and in solvent systems, solvent, alcohol and water resistance in the cured film, hardness up without losing flexibility, and adhesion upgraded on difficult substrates.

Handling and dispersion

Add TRAZIDIN VN to the finished formulation shortly before application and mix well. As with any reactive crosslinker, batch what the shift will use.

It works in aqueous and solvent systems. In waterborne work the usual partners are carboxylated acrylic emulsions and polyurethane dispersions, including the crosslinkable TRAPYLEN dispersions we supply.

Keep the product away from moisture and sunlight, and store it away from acids and oxidizers. The container stays closed and dry.

Packaging, storage, and regulatory status

Package sizes: Plastic drums of 204 kg. Other packing on request..

Storage: At least 12 months in closed original packing at 15 degrees C. Keep from moisture and sunlight, and away from acids and oxidizers.

Refer to the current safety data sheet for hazard classification, exposure controls and handling. Aziridine chemistry is reactive and the SDS governs how it is stored and used.

Frequently asked questions

What binders does TRAZIDIN VN crosslink?

Carboxyl-bearing binders, which in practice means carboxylated acrylic emulsions and polyurethane dispersions. The aziridine groups react with the carboxyl groups' active hydrogen, so a binder without acid functionality has nothing for it to react with. Tell us the binder and we will confirm fit before a sample ships.

How much goes into a formulation?

The addition follows the carboxyl content of the binder rather than a fixed percentage, so the level is set in the trial. We run that with you against the resistance targets the finished system has to hit.

Does it work in solvent systems or only in water?

Both. TRAZIDIN VN is miscible in water and many common organic solvents, so the same crosslinker serves an aqueous adhesive and a solvent coating.

How should it be stored and handled?

Closed, dry, at 15 degrees C, away from moisture, sunlight, acids and oxidizers. It is a reactive chemical and the current safety data sheet governs handling; we send it with every sample and order.

Can I get the TDS and SDS for TRAZIDIN VN?

Yes. We send the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) on request, in the manufacturer's current revision. Use Request TDS or SDS above and tell us what your qualification review needs.
