Benzotriazole and tolyltriazole for yellow-metal corrosion control. Solid 99 percent granular and sodium-salt liquids, held in stock in the United States.
Benzotriazole and tolyltriazole are the standard chemistry for protecting copper, brass, bronze and other yellow metals. Both molecules bond to a copper surface and build a thin film that blocks chloride and sulfate from reaching the metal, and both hold at very low dose rates. The surface ends up passivated, so it resists pitting, tarnish and the copper dissolution that drives galvanic attack elsewhere in a system.
P.A.T. Products has supplied these inhibitors to North American industry for decades, and holds them in stock in the United States. Four grades are listed below. Two are the solid 99 percent granular products, benzotriazole and tolyltriazole, released against a seven and eight point specification. Two are the sodium-salt liquids, sodium benzotriazole at 40 percent and sodium tolyltriazole at 50 percent, supplied ready to meter.
The choice between benzotriazole and tolyltriazole is a service question rather than a purity question. Tolyltriazole carries a methyl group on the ring, and it is the grade usually chosen where a system runs hot or carries an oxidizing biocide. Benzotriazole is the base inhibitor and the one most formulations mean when they specify an azole without qualifying it.
The choice between solid and liquid is a handling question. The granular grades ship and store compactly and suit a formulator who dissolves a concentrate or blends a powder. The sodium salts are already in water, already alkaline, and go straight into a liquid feed with no dissolving step.
Every page below carries the specification the material is released against, the packaging and storage facts that matter, and the documents available on request. Tell us how you dose and we will name the form that fits.
Benzotriazole, a heterocyclic compound with three ring nitrogens. The base yellow-metal inhibitor, as a 99 percent fine granular solid released against an eight-point specification. Held in stock in the United States.
